Is there any orientation for students moving from grade 8 to grade 9?
Yes. An orientation tour is provided for all students currently enrolled in the Pittsfield Public Schools in the spring of the school year. In addition, a district “First Day” will be provided all grade 9 students at the start of the school year. A letter mailed to homes during the summer, or available through the school’s office, will provide details regarding this orientation program.
How do I register my child for grades 9-12?
If your child is currently enrolled in the Pittsfield Public Schools, he/she will be automatically registered for the next school year. High school registration occurs during the month of March, when parents are asked to review course selections with the child and sign that they accept these choices. Students receive a draft schedule by the close of school. If you are new to Pittsfield you should contact your resident home school directly and arrange an appointment to register your child. To determine your home school, use this street directory.

- Taconic High School 448-9600
Is there any orientation for parents prior to the registration process?
Yes. Orientation sessions are held at the schools. Please watch the school websites and the district website for details.
Who do I talk to if I have any concerns regarding my child’s course schedule?
Parents should contact each high school guidance office at their earliest convenience. Counselors are available for a full week after the close of the school year and throughout the summer two days a week.

What if my child is interested in applying for a Career/Vocational Technical Program?
Grade 8: Students who are interested in applying to be part of the Career Exploratory Program need to fill out a Career/Vocational Technical Education Program Selection Form. Students are then placed based on the admissions policy.
Grade 9/10/11: Students who have completed Career Exploratory during grade 9, 10, or 11 apply for acceptance to a specific Career/Vocational Technical Program through a competitive screening process outlined in the admissions policy. Students may also enroll in CVTE programs without taking Career Exploratory; however, these students will be allowed to fill spaces remaining open after Career Exploratory students are placed. Students are strongly encouraged to take Career Exploratory if they wish to enroll in CVTE programs.
