SAT PREP COURSE
Where: Pittsfield High School, 300 East Street, Pittsfield
When: Every Thursday starting on February 7, 2013 from 6-8pm until May 9, 2012 (12 Sessions)
How: Sign up in guidance on January 10th at THS from 5-6pm or at PHS from 7-8pm.
Who: Students who are planning on taking the SATs and would like to gain insight and knowledge on the SATs
Cost: The SAT prep course is $300.00 for PPS students and $400.00 for out of district students. (Cash only, no checks accepted)

Expanded Opportunities for Students at Taconic High School
Click below to read about a new program and grant, backed by Mass Insight Education and the Massachusetts Math & Science Initiative, launching at Taconic High School in 2013-14. This initiative is designed to increase student participation in math, science and English, with a focus on underrepresented student communities; increase the number of qualifying (3,4,5) Advanced Placement test scores; and increase the number of students ready to fully engage with and succeed in a college curriculum.

Academic Decathlon
The Academic Decathlon is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with
students from other schools.Students
are tested in Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature,
Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science and Speech.Each high school enters a team of nine
students: 3 "A" or Honor
students, 3 "B" or Scholastic
students, and 3 "C" or Varsity
students. The theme for the 2010–2011 Academic Decathlon season is "The Great Depression."

Students discuss issues of diversity and create projects to help make THS a safe and respectful school for all.Gay, bisexual, and transgender students and their allies are strongly encouraged to participate in this group.

Intramurals
The Physical Education Dept. offers intramurals Monday thru Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Aerobic Room which features treadmills, rowing machines, various exercise bikes, elliptical trainer, stairmasters and dumbell weights is open at these times. On Tuesday and Thursday an activity that is being offered in class will also be offered after school in the gym. For example, badminton, basketball, indoor soccer etc. We want students to Balance the Equation. Physical Activity + Proper Nutrition = Total Health.
Italian Club
Open to all Italian students interested in Italian culture.Activities include tutoring, movies, book club and games.All are welcome!

Open to Latin students and anyone interested in the ancient world.Periodic celebration of holidays and notable events in Roman history.Also, twice a month, after school Certamen (quiz game), just for fun.

Literary Magazine
The Double-Edged Sword, Taconic High School's literary magazine, is a venue for writers, poets, songwriters, playwrights and artists to publish their work.Any Taconic student may submit pieces for selection by editors.

National Honor Society
This group is composed of highly achieving Taconic juniors and
seniors who volunteer throughout the community. An NHS student must maintain a
grade point average of 90 or above. NHS students help out their peers by
tutoring and are the leaders of our school.

New England Math League
Open to honor level math students from 10th - 12th grade.

Peer Resource
A group of students representing the entire student population, trained in conflict resolution and mediation techniques. They use their skills to help fellow students resolve conflicts and make Taconic a safer place.

Consists of leadership conferences, weekly meetings, service projects, school credits, monetary incentives, making new friends, community recognition and the opportunity to become a great leader in our community.

activities such as hiking, white water rafting, camping and biking.We have traveled locally as well as taken
trips to Washington, D.C, Boston, Costa Rica, and NYC to visit museums, zoos,

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
Meet to discuss the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use impaired driving and other destructive decisions. Also performs community service to help younger children.

Taconic Book Club
A diverse group of students and faculty read the same book over a period of six weeks and meet to discuss it weekly. There is also communication and postings through the school’s library website.

Theatre
Fall Festival of
Shakespeare with a show in November; a spring musical with auditions in
December and a show in April. Theater class meets period 7 and we perform for
Halloween, the holidays and put on a dinner theater murder mystery in the
spring.Those unable to enroll in the
class are still welcome to participate.

Yearbook
All are welcome. We need writers, designers, salespeople and photographers! Yearbook meetings are held after school. Days of the week will vary. All students may sign up, but this is of particular interest to juniors and seniors. Students may also sign up to take yearbook for credit with the permission of Mrs. Eldridge. Meetings are usually in Room 182, next to the library. Stop in and see Mrs. Eldridge in room 182 if you have any questions.

Repetitivas faltas por enfermedad cronica o heridas. En este caso, el papa debe de mandar una carta a su doctor verificando que el estudiante estaba enfermo para ir a la escuela.
El estudiante tiene que cuidar a los ninos

Vacaciones familiares
Extension de actividades religiosas o culturales mas haya de los designados dias de la escuela.
Cuando sea posible, papas deben checar con el director antes de permitir que su hijo falte a la escuela si no estan seguros que la ausencia puede ser excenta. La escuela no es responsable por ayudar a su hijo que haga el trabajo escolar atrasado.

Un estudiante se le califica tardansa si el o ella llega a la escuela tarde, sin una excusa o razon valida.
Oficina de Asistencia
La oficina de asistencia hara visitas a casa o a la escuela en cuanto a extensas faltas, excesivas tardanzas y truancy y se hara una investigacion y recomendaciones en la escuela en casos con la corte judicial y en todos los casos de ofensa o truants.
El oficial de asistencia tiene la autoridad de tomar a un truant estuiante en la comunidad y traerlo a la escuela Padres podran ser contactados e informarles hacerca de las acciones disciplinarias a seguir.
ES RESPONSABILIDAD DE LOS PADRES ASEGURARSE QUE LOS HIJOS ASISTAN A LA ESCUELA
Padres o guardianes legales necesitan ver que los ninos asistan a la escuela regularmente. El no hacerlo le causara una falta a la Oficina de Asistencia llenando una forma 51ª para que chequen los servicios de Ninos con el departamento de Servicio Social o la corte juvenil forma MGL 76 2 o cargos criminales cargos MGL c 119 63.

November 2013 Newsletter

AP Saturday Sessions
Taconic High School AP students have an opportunity to collaborate with fellow AP students from local high schools at Drury and Lee through Saturday study sessions held three times throughout the year. These Saturday sessions are not required however, are highly recommended.Students will have an opportunity to receive instruction from highly qualified instructors in their respective AP field. Participation in these Saturday session will better prepare students for their AP exam in the Spring. Students who score a 3 or greater on the AP Exam may earn college credits. The schedule for November sessions are listed below. Further sessions will be held in February, March and April. The sessions run from 8:00am-3:00pm bus transportation and lunch will be provided. Students will participate in four 1 hour 15 minute sessions. This program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Math and Science Initiative grant. Once again we encourage all AP students to participate in these sessions.

November 16th – AP Calculus and Statistics
November 23rd – AP English Language and Literature
